Etiology (causes)
Etiology refers to the causes of the disability. There are many different causes of disability, including genetics, injury, disease, and the unknown, being the most common.
- The etiology of each of the disability categories is provided for you and available in the Disability Summary Overviews. Understandably, parents will want to know why their child has a disability. The underlying causes of disability are often unknown or stem from a range of possible causes. The role of the special educator is to help the learner and family to move forward and find ways to get the help that is needed.
